Subj: How do I know there is a God Date: 7/26/99 12:52:14 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: CEOFort500 To: A Person who sent me an instant message last year.
The Message: Please write me an e-mail and prove to me that there is a God. I will read the e-mail later. If you can prove it, then I will consider what you wrote about the sad state of America. (I had posted my testimony on a bulletin board)
My response to this person:
A short time ago, Chuck Colson was on the stage of William and Mary College in Williamsburg Va near me, and talking about his Watergate days, and how he was one of the most powerful men in America, during the Presidency of Richard Nixon. He was White House counsel, and was subsequently convicted for his Watergate crimes.
A man stepped up on the stage, and in front of a packed auditorium, challenged Colson to levitate a chair that was sitting on stage. He then waited for his reply.
Colson did not hesitate but told of a similar question that was put to Jesus. He was asked by the religious leaders of the day to do miracles, and they even mocked at Him while on the cross, to save himself and come down from the cross.
His response to them was that if they did not believe in Moses and all the prophets, they would not believe in Him even though he did many miracles here on the earth.
Colson then said, "The miracle you seek is right before your eyes. I was a crooked lawyer, controlling many wicked things in the White House. I lied, cheated and robbed the American people, while full of immense pride at my position as Chief Counsel to the President. It took a trip to prison, before I met the person of Jesus Christ, by inviting Him to come into my life, and forgive my sin, and set me on the right path. Today, my friend, I am that miracle. That is a greater thing that God has done, than levitating this chair." The auditorium erupted in applause and cheers at his answer.
And of course I myself can echo the same thing. On April 30, 1960, I rejected a life filled with sin and debauchery and asked the Living God to come into my life. I too, am a miracle, and each day that I walk this world, and struggle with which path to take, I find that God's ways pay real dividends in my life.
If you read through my web site, you will see that I am not some goody two shoes preacher type guy, but a real live, building contractor/real estate investor, who loves the Lord and has seen hundreds of changed lives like the miracle you are looking for in your question to me.
Yes, my friend, there is a God. I know because He lives within my heart. What a miracle that He could do that, knowing the utter depravity that I am capable of living and doing.
I would close with a verse from Romans 5:8. "But God commends his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
So I hope I have answered some questions for you.
I think that more questions can be answered in this page out of my website.
