The Most Powerful Person in the World

My boyhood hero was Superman.

As a youngster, Mom would get mad at me, cause I always had all the towels around my shoulders, as I tried to "Leap tall buildings with a single bound". I was of course "faster than a speeding bullet" already, having raced around the house at the speed of light.

I was even able to make the world stop a couple of times as I mimicked my boyhood hero, and raced madly around the world, stopping the criminals of the world and whisking them off to the jailhouse.

One thing really bugs me though. Never could understand why Lois Lane, could not see through that disguise. Really Clark. At least get one of those fake noses attached to your glasses.

Well, after breaking my arm as a young grade school lad, climbing on the back of a large stake body truck, I began to come back to reality. Maybe I wasn't really as strong and powerful as I thought.

Or perhaps there was a few lumps of Kryptonite in the back of the truck.

Power! Strength! Invincibility! Immortality!

As youngsters, many of us daydream of those things.

Did you know that in the King James Version of the Bible, the word Power is mentioned 272 times.

A very notable verse is 2 Samuel 22:33----- "God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect."

Real strength and power is amplified in 2 Cor 12:9, when Paul says, "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

In order for us to become powerful, we have to acknowledge our total weakness before God.

The word Strength occurs 242 times in the Bible (KJV). Check out some of those verses in the Blue Letter Bible.

Strength and Power do not reside in our "Superman" fantasies, but in the reality of living the Christian life, and letting God infuse us with His Power.

Who then is the "Most Powerful Person in the World"?

You are!----------Or I am!

Coupled with the truth of the Word of God, and a faith in a God who delights in doing miracles, we can participate in a life filled with power and strength, filled and equipped by the Holy Spirit of Almighty God.

Real power flows into our lives, not by donning those Superman capes I wore as a youngster, but as I clothe myself in God's wardrobe as described in Ephesians 6. "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power." (NIV)

The full armor of God.

The belt of truth.

The breastplate of righteousness.

The shoes fitted with the gospel of peace.

The shield of faith.

The helmet of salvation.

The sword of the Spirit.

And most important. Verses 18-20. Pray.

Put these ingredients in your spiritual mixing bowl, and you will discover the secret of power and strength that God wants you to know.

Daniel 11:32 "But the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits."
